Myrtle was founded in 2011 by Whitney Bickers and named after her great-great-grandmother. The shop originally opened in Echo Park, Los Angeles as a friendly destination to see, feel, and try on pieces created by independent female designers.

As of 2020, Myrtle is an online boutique with shopping by appointment available in Highland Park.
